I am constantly amazed at the number of people out there looking for the secret sauce to building a business or accomplishing some personal objective. They will travel thousands of miles and pay thousands of dollars to learn about some peripheral subject matter all while tripping over the most important thing that needs to be determined before you even begin: How strong is your intention? How committed am I to knocking down a particular target, proving or disproving a concept, getting the girl (boy), writing a book or any other pursuit? I personally feel that the word “commitment” is a overused surface concept that has lost it’s impact for most people. The most amazing accomplishments on the planet have been achieved by individuals who were way beyond committed, they were down right dogged in their approach! The word doggedness is defined as; stubbornly unyielding; “dogged persistence”; “dour determination”; “men tenacious of opinion;” “tenacious;” “obstinate;” “stubborn;” – tenaciously unwilling or marked by tenacious unwillingness to yield! “Doggedness, according to Charles Darwin’s son Francis, expresses his frame of mind better than perseverance. Perseverance seems hardly to express his almost fierce desire to force the truth to reveal itself.” Although there was significantly more to Darwin’s genius than than his dogged persistence in defiance of established authority, his brilliance would have counted for little, without this attribute, in accomplishing the revolution that now bears his name. If your not willing to drive a stake into your objective, burn your ships and never look back, you may be able to get along just fine, but nobody will remember your name!
